When a 'For Sale' sign went up a few years ago at the Kingwood Garden Center located at 1216 Stonehollow Drive many of us gardeners were fearful of loosing one of our treasured assets. Without it where were we plantaholics to go for answers to our many gardening questions, quality landscaping supplies, and the hard to find plants that don't seem to be available at other outlets. Luckily for us Bob and Nancy Robertson came to our rescue and took over the center in March. They were quick to recognize the value of the long time employees at the center, Toni Dunn and Yvonne Barbee who between them have over 50 years of horticulture experience at the center. With their help and the additional new employees they began a Spring clean up and installed new shadescreens and a website, designed by Veronica Fisher, that will soon be available. The latest, and some say, the most spectacular improvement is the front curbsides garden designed and planted by Herr Landscape. The project has received much acclaim and the Kingwood Garden Club were so happy to find such a deserving project for their Community Enhancement Award. Anyone looking for information on what to plant for color that will be tolerant of our summer heat have a shining example right there at the center. The Robertson's have even more plans for improvements. This time they are turning their attention to the inside which is currently being remodeled. They have plans to feature a unique garden gift and decor section and an expanded selection of books for children and adults. These improvement should be finished in the Fall. |
